Principal's Report

“Give thanks in all circumstances” – 1 Thessalonians 5:18
As we come to the end of another term, we’re given a valuable opportunity to pause, take a breath, and reflect on what has been a very busy and rewarding ten weeks. It’s a chance to cultivate an attitude of gratitude — to acknowledge and appreciate the many wonderful things that have happened, the achievements reached, milestones celebrated, and the countless “ah-ha” moments that have enriched our school community.
A special thanks and heartfelt acknowledgment to our dedicated staff for the incredible work they do each and every day. Our students are truly blessed to be in the care of such committed and passionate educators.
Congratulations to our students on all they’ve achieved this term — through learning, leading, creating, and growing. We are proud of each and every one of them.
With sincere gratitude for the blessings and experiences of Term 2, we wish all our families a restful, safe, and joyful holiday.
We look forward to doing it all again in Term 3!

Religious Education
Confirmation
Congratulations Zac and Hamish!
We offer our heartfelt congratulations to Zac Casillan and Hamish Davie, who received the Sacrament of Confirmation on the 18th of June, conferred by Archbishop Julian.
Zac and Hamish, along with their families, have been preparing with dedication throughout the first half of this year, and this special milestone was celebrated in a beautiful Liturgy of the Word.
Following the service, the boys enjoyed a lovely supper provided by parish families, where they were able to spend time with some of the new friends they’ve made along their faith journey.
Please continue to keep Zac and Hamish and their families in your prayers as they now look forward to receiving their First Eucharist in Term 3. We offer our heartfelt thanks to Mrs. Donna Clark for volunteering her time to be official photographer of the evening. Her photos are such a beautiful memory for all families involved.

Early Years Grandparents and Special Persons’ Afternoon
Monday 18th June
The 18th of June was a joyful and bustling day at St Cuthbert’s, as our Early Years students (Kindergarten to Grade 2) warmly welcomed their grandparents and special guests for a truly memorable afternoon.
We began with a heartfelt welcome in the hall, including a prayer and a beautiful song, before moving into the classrooms where students hosted their guests with a range of engaging activities. The walls were almost bursting at the seams with the love and laughter shared throughout the school!
The classrooms were alive with a wonderful buzz as students and their guests made pasta necklaces, created hand collages, read books together, played board games, made crowns, coloured in and enjoyed a variety of craft activities. The beaming smiles on the faces of students, staff and visitors alike were a true highlight of the day.
A sincere and heartfelt thank you to our amazing students and staff for opening their classrooms (and hearts), and to all the grandparents and special guests who took the time to be part of this special occasion. Your presence made the day even more meaningful.
We’re looking forward to continuing the celebrations in Week 2 of Term 3, when our Primary classes will host their own Grandparents and Special Persons’ Afternoon.

Learning & Teaching
Festival of Voices – Young Tasmania Sings
This week, a group of 13 talented students proudly represented St Cuthbert's Catholic School at the Festival of Voices in the Young Tasmania Sings concert. Our students – Holly, Ava, Addison, Ruby, Hugh, Amelia, Jett, Ameila, Lola, Violet, Astrid, and Violet – joined with young singers from schools and community choirs across Tasmania in a joyful and inspiring choral celebration.
Under the direction of guest conductor Annie Kwok, and accompanied by the Tasmanian Youth Orchestra, the combined choir performed six beautiful pieces that they had been preparing throughout the year.
A heartfelt thank you goes to Mrs Volkmann, who dedicated many months to working with our students, guiding them through rehearsals and preparing them for this incredible opportunity.
This year also marked the 20th anniversary of the Festival of Voices – a fitting milestone for such a memorable performance. Our students sang with confidence, unity, and joy, and we are incredibly proud of their efforts.
Thank you to everyone who supported our students on this journey. What a special experience to be part of such a magical event!

St Cuthbert's Catholic School Chess Tournament
On Friday, 20th June, St Cuthbert's held its very first Chess Tournament, inviting enthusiastic students from Grades 2 to 6 to take part. The aim of the day was to give students the opportunity to experience a friendly, competitive environment while enjoying the strategic and fun game of chess.
Over the course of two hours, students faced off in a series of matches, demonstrating impressive focus, sportsmanship, and tactical thinking.
A special thank you goes to Joey Cavanagh from Black Square Chess, who helped to facilitate the tournament and ensured the event ran smoothly.
After a series of exciting rounds, we are proud to announce Connor P. as the St Cuthbert’s Chess Champion for 2025! Congratulations, Connor!
Well done to all students who participated—you made our first tournament a great success! We look forward to many more in the future.

Art News
The 3/4 classes have been learning all about Jeff Koons and his very distinctive art which explores how things that are commonly found, like balloons or everyday objects, can be seen as art. Using this as our inspiration we created these amazing Balloon Dogs. We learnt how to shade and add highlights to give the impression of a rounded surface.
