Dear Parents and Guardians
Principal Sabbatical Leave
I will be taking Sabbatical and Long Service Leave in Term 4. Mrs Melissa Thirgood will be Acting Principal in my absence. Mrs Claire Chivers has been appointed Acting Deputy Principal for Term 4. I know that you will provide Melissa and Claire with all the necessary support and assistance enabling them to fulfill their respective roles.
Congratulations
We congratulate Mrs Melissa Thirgood on her appointment as Director of the Junior School at St Mary’s College. Melissa will take up this appointment from 1st January 2025. Melissa has been an outstanding Deputy Principal at St Cuthbert’s and will no doubt be a wonderful addition to the staff at St Mary’s. As we head towards the end of the year I am sure there will be a time to thank and acknowledge Melissa for her wonderful contribution to our community,
Canberra 2024
Last week our Grade 6 students travelled to Canberra and Sydney. From all reports our students had a fantastic time and were wonderful ambassadors for our school. On behalf of our school community I would like to acknowledge and thank Mr Rom Fabrizio, Mr Stephen Brook, Mrs Melissa Thirgood, Mrs Katherine Dobbie and Mr Ian Shanahan who accompanied our students on their trip to our nation’s capital. Mr Fabrizio deserves special thanks for all of his work and preparation prior to the excursion. Special thanks also to Ella Glover who helped out as well!
Book Week
Each year, across Australia, the CBCA brings children and books together celebrating Children’s Book Week. Throughout the year, the CBCA works in partnership with authors, illustrators, publishers, booksellers and other organisations in the children’s book world to bring words, images and stories into the hearts and minds of children and adults.
Australian children’s literature enriches our nation and fire the imagination of our children.
This year our celebration of Book Week was a largely a class based activity. Thank you to all of our students and staff who got into the spirit of “Book Week” by dressing up as their favourite characters.
Mr Marcus Donnelly
Principal
We would like to congratulate Father Mark Freeman on his incredible forty years of ministry in priesthood. The 10:30am Mass at Corpus Christi was packed in honour of celebrating with Father Mark on his special day. Archbishop Emeritus Doyle concelebrated with Father Mark, along with many of Father Mark’s fellow priests and close friends from across the country.
Father Kasun put together a beautiful photo montage of memories for Father Mark (he was a very cute baby!!) and our school community recorded their congratulations to be included in the video. We will have an opportunity to celebrate as a school community with Father Mark later in the term.
Father’s/Special Person’s Day
Happy Father’s Day on Sunday to all of the father’s, caregivers and special people who are so integral in the lives of our children. We hope you have a special day on Sunday and you feel surrounded by love.
Lord God, you are our Father,
Bless all fathers and all who care for children.
May they be patient, kind and trustworthy, understanding and strong in faith.
Grant that they may inspire their children to be loving and caring,
always looking to help those in need, and respecting the dignity of everyone they meet.
We ask this prayer through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
Last week our Grade 6 class with Mr Fab, Mr Brook, Mrs Dobbie, Mrs Thirgood and Mr Shanahan got up extremely early at 5am and met at Hobart Airport to catch two planes to Canberra.
Whilst in Canberra we visited the National Capital Exhibition, Questacon, the Australian Institute of Sport, The National Dinosaur Museum, The National Museum of Australia, The War Memorial, The Royal Mint, Parliament House and the Museum of Old Parliament House. We also played laser tag, did bowling and watched a movie at the National Film archive.
Finally we travelled to Sydney and went on the Manly Ferry, saw the Sydney Opera House and walked along Sydney Harbour Bridge. We had a great time and had the chance to make long lasting memories in our final year of primary school. Thank you to the teachers who accompanied us and organised such a fun trip for us.
