‘As we travel through life we must keep God in sight, lest we lose our way'
As we prepare for the Holy Year of 2025, Pope Francis has encouraged young people across the globe to approach their life journey ‘as pilgrims and not just sightseers seeking the perfect selfie’. His message challenges all of us, not just young people, to avoid being ‘like superficial sightseers, blind to the beauty around you, never discovering the meaning of the roads you take, interested only in a few fleeting moments to capture in a selfie’. That is what tourists do, not conscientious pilgrims.
In contrast, the Pope invites all of us to remember that we are pilgrims in life, who ‘immerse themselves fully in the places they encounter, listen to the message they communicate and make them a part of their quest for happiness and fulfilment’. (By Chris Gleeson SJ- https://www.pray.com.au/)
As we launch into Term 4, I am abundantly aware of soaking in every moment and event that I have the privilege of experiencing as a part of our St Cuthbert’s community. Witnessing daily the growth of all the students in our care, is truly remarkable. From seeing our Kinders developing the skills to line up, dress themselves ready for bush kinder and navigate all sorts of play scenarios; to bearing witness to the resilience, grit and independence of our Grade 6’s who only last term literally spent 3 nights interstate away from family preparing themselves for the journey ahead into highschool. As reflected by Chris Gleeson above I encourage all our families to ‘immerse themselves fully in the places they encounter’ which may mean not necessarily capturing every growth moment of our children on camera but witnessing this through our own eyes hopefully creating lasting memories.
House Leader Commissioning
This week we commissioned our new House Leaders from Grade 6. This year we re-structured our student leadership format where we now commission new House Leaders each term. It was a lovely handover and celebration with family members in attendance for this special event. This term our new House Leaders are as follows:
Rogers: Joshua Dare
Flynn: Freddy Westphalen-Brown
Presentation: Miles Verney

Catholic Mission Mass
On Tuesday 22nd October our Lantern Leaders attended the Catholic Mission Mass at St Mary’s Cathedral. This Mass is hosted by Catholic Mission and included a presentation of a special set of world rosary beads to representatives from schools and parishes. As always our students represented our school with respect and pride.
RE News From Grade 3/4
As a part of our Sacraments Unit in 3/4 we used the artwork of Safina Stewart as inspiration to create our own images. Safina Stewart is an Aboriginal artist whose pieces often reflect a religious nature or story. We used similar patterns, symbols and colours to create an image which represented one of the seven Sacraments.
Ditto
Last week the Kinder - Grade 2 students had a visit from Ditto the Bravehearts’ Keep Safe Bear. Bravehearts’ Ditto’s Keep Safe Adventure Show teaches young children essential personal safety skills using age-appropriate language, song, and dance.
Ryka Performance
At the end of Term 3 we were lucky enough to have Aboriginal performer Ryka come and share his talents with us. Ryka performed with his cousin Billie and the students greatly enjoyed getting involved, especially cheering on their teachers as they also participated.
School Basketball Tournament
This weekend our 5/6s will be representing St Cuthbert’s in the 2024 Primary Schools Basketball Tournament. We wish them all the best. A big thank you to all those involved with getting this organised.
Our Grade 3/4 ‘s will compete on Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th of November.
Our Running Club has been running hot this year with two sessions per week. This week some of our dedicated students received their ‘25 Runs’ t-shirt to recognise their commitment to 25 runs so far this year. These are represented in a vibrant yellow colour and the students who have earnt these t-shirts are invited to wear them on Running Club days (Monday and Wednesday). There are also further t-shirts that students can receive if they do: 50 runs, 75 runs and 100 runs. Thank you to Mr Zegveld and our amazing staff who help ‘run’ this lunchtime option for our students.
A reminder of our updated Uniform Policy which we are moving towards being fully in place from the beginning of next year. This can we found on our website here: chrome-extension://efaidnbmnnnibpcajpcglclefindmkaj/https://cdn.prod.website-files.com/5daa74260d705b464d7e5aaa/6706ece5632649ab83970893_2025%20Uniform%20Policy%20St%20Cuthbert%27s%20Catholic%20School%20.docx.pdf
A reminder that ALL children’s hair must be tied back if it is falling below the collar.
Leggings
The uniform committee have been actively searching for a provider that we can recommend to our families for the purchase of leggings. We are pleased to communicate that School Active Sports, an online company, sell Forest Green 3/4 length leggings for $39.95 and full length leggings for $49.95. Postage of these is approximately $10. We have purchased the following sizes: size 4 and size 6 if families would like to come to the office to gauge sizing, but according to current families who have already purchased these the sizes are smaller than normal so it is recommended to go up a size for your child. One of our committee members did contact the company and they can also custom make bigger sizes that are not listed on their website. Please see link below to purchase:
