Principal’s Report
That which Christ-like within us
shall be crucified.
It shall suffer and be broken.
And that which is Christ-like within us shall rise up.
It shall love and create.
Leunig
Amen.
Dear Parents and Guardians
Welcome Back
Welcome Back! I hope you enjoyed a joyful and peaceful Easter Break.
We’ve really hit the ground running in Term 2 and a quick glance at the calendar reveals a pretty full agenda for the next 10 weeks.
From a teaching and learning perspective we will continue the great work started in Term 1 with our whole school reading strategy. Throughout the term our teachers will be working closely with Education Officers from the Catholic Education Office to come to a greater understanding of what reading looks like at St Cuthbert’s. We feel that it is important that our community has a shared understanding of how we go about the teaching and learning of literacy and that everyone is aware of our aspirations and expectations in this important area of the curriculum. We look forward to sharing this information with our community as it comes to hand.
We have much to look forward to this term:
Easter Liturgy
Lachlan Marsh at National Presentation Conference
NAPLAN
Educator Impact program for leaders
Cross Country Events: Early Years, Primary and All Schools
Continue our Literacy Strategy: Reading Comprehension Journey
Quiz Night, May 27

NAPLAN
This week students in Grade 3 and Grade 5 will participate in the annual NAPLAN assessments, the national assessment program for literacy and numeracy.
NAPLAN tests the sorts of skills that are essential for every child to progress through school and life, such as reading, writing, spelling, grammar and numeracy. It is important to remember that NAPLAN tests are not pass/fail tests. At the classroom level it is one of a number of important tools used by teachers to measure student progress.
We wish all of our participating students the very best for this week.
ANZAC Day
I would like to thank the following students for representing our school at the ANZAC Day ceremony held at Lindisfarne over the holiday period:
Talan Cheeseman, Billy Rule, Charlie Balzer, Campbell Webb, Riley Clark, Jacob Mitchell, Bridget Potter, Olivia Balzer, Lachlan Fitzgerald, Madeline Burnett, Isabella Burnett, Isobel Mitchell, Cooper Jenkins and Taylah Jenkins
I would particularly like to thank Billy Rule (Grade 1) and Charlie Balzer (Grade 6) for presenting a wreath on behalf of the school. Thanks also to Rebecca Balzer for collecting the wreath and making sure we were all in the right place at the right time.

Winter Uniform
All students from Prep-Grade 6 should now be wearing Winter Uniform.
For girls this means either a tartan skirt or trousers, with the white shirt and jumper. The summer dress may not be worn again until Term 4.
For boys there isn’t any change, as they may wear either shorts or long grey trousers throughout the year. Hats are not required during Terms 2 and 3.
Welcome New Students
We are delighted to welcome Jerome and Julian Pollard to St Cuthbert’s Catholic School. Jerome will be in Grade 4/5 and Julian is in Grade 3.
Parking at Drop- Off and Pick-Up time
Could all parents and guardians who are picking up and dropping off children please ensure that they do not park over driveways at the beginning and end of the day? Your cooperation with this matter is greatly appreciated.
School Banking
The Catholic Development Fund have confirmed that those students with Kookaburra accounts can still bank with them until early December. All accounts would then need to be closed or transferred to an account of your choice. No new accounts can be created.
If any parents would be available to be part of a roster to assist with processing the banking on Wednesdays, please contact Allison Norman at the School Office and we will look at starting again on Wednesday 24th May.
The CDF are working with the CDF Melbourne on creating private customer accounts, but nothing has been confirmed at this stage. We will keep you informed of any developments over the next month or two.
