Principal’s Report

Dear Parents and Guardians

The point is not to become a leader. The point is to become yourself – and to use yourself completely – all your gifts, skills and energies – to make your vision manifest. You must withhold nothing. You must in sum become the person you started out to be, and to enjoy the process of becoming.

Grade 5 Leadership

This week our Grade 5 students will be participating in a Leadership Day with Mr. Fabrizio on the 27th September, 2017 (Wednesday of Week 10, Term 3). The day will involve activities associated with the transition and expectations of students heading into Grade 6. This will be an excellent opportunity for our Grade 5 students to develop greater awareness of the expectations required of them in Grade 6 and to have students starting to think about Leadership.

The plan of the day will involve the students travelling to the Clarence Sports Center to participate in activities that will focus on identifying and building “teamwork and cooperation skills.”

Students will then head back to school to work with special guests, Marty Ogle and Greg Dwyer. Marty and Greg are Education Officers from Catholic Education and work in the areas of values education, pastoral care and social and emotional learning. Their focus will be around helping our students understand and identify the key characteristics of “Servant Leadership” as modelled and espoused by Christ in the Gospels.

This is an exciting opportunity for our future leaders and we trust that they will find the experience valuable.

Athletics Carnival

Congratulations to everyone who participated in the last week’s Athletics Carnival. It was a day full of great performances and keen competition between the houses.

Once again we thank Mr. Clark for organising another outstanding carnival. Everything ran as smoothly as clockwork with nothing left to chance. We even had the weather “Gods” on our side with hardly a cloud in the sky!

It was great to see so many parents in attendance. Thank you to those parents, students and staff who assisted as marshals, judges and volunteers on the day. We really appreciate your support.

We would also like to thank John Sawyer and Lachlan Marsh for helping us with the set-up and pack-up.

The results at the end of the day were as follows:

Rogers - 359
Presentation - 345
Flynn - 299

Canberra

This week 34 of our Grade 6 students head to Canberra for their major excursion of the year. Being a veteran of several Canberra trips I know that our students will have an outstanding week, visiting the nation’s capital and consolidating and building upon months of learning in the class. They will visit the National Gallery, Parliament House, the Australian War Memorial and Australian Institute of Sport to name just a few of the highlights on their itinerary.

The Canberra trip is also a time of great personal growth for our Grade 6 students. For some students it’s the first time that they have spent a substantial time away from home or flown interstate without their parents. We wish them all the very best and pray that they take advantage of every opportunity presented to them during their time away.

AFL Breakfast

We had a wonderful response to our AFL Breakfast on Monday morning with everyone getting into the spirit of the AFL Finals arriving decked out in the favourite team colours.

Thank you to our Parents and Friends for organizing and running this event. We would especially like to thank Steve and Lucia Fitzgerald for generously donating the eggs and bacon for our AFL Breakfast. Good luck to all the Crows and Tigers fans next weekend!

Summer Uniform and Hats–Term 4

A reminder to parents that students may wear summer uniform as part of a transition period from the beginning of Term 4. All students must be wearing summer uniform from the beginning of week 3 – October 30. Students are also required to wear hats at recess and lunchtimes during Term 4.

Food Fair

A reminder to parents and guardians to keep Friday, November 3 at 4.00pm free for the St Cuthbert’s Catholic School Food Festival. On behalf of our parents and friends I strongly encourage as many people as possible to support this event.

Events like this present a great opportunity for us to come together as a community and get to know each other a little better. We’d love to see you there.

Enrolment 2018

We are about to begin the process of planning and organizing classes and staffing for 2018. If your family is leaving at the end of the year could you please notify the Office as soon as possible? Your assistance in this matter is greatly appreciated.

Thank you

On behalf of the St Cuthbert’s Catholic School community, I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has assisted our students and staff throughout Term 3. We really do appreciate your involvement in the education of our students. I hope that everyone is able to have a well-earned rest and are able to get some time to spend with family and friends. We look forward to working with you again in Term 4.

School Banking

St Cuthbert’s will no longer be offering banking services through the School. Please see options below from the CDF if you currently hold a CDF Kookaburra account for your child.

Letters to Account Holders

Letters explaining the changes and options available to Students/Parents will be posted out. We are aiming to have all letters posted by Friday, 8 September. This will give account holders around 6 weeks to decide which option they prefer.

The letters will be sent on an ‘Opt Out’ basis, meaning that if we don’t hear back from Students/Parents then their accounts will be transferred to the new Community Fund automatically.

Options include;

1. Transfer to new CDF Community Fund
A decision has been made to collaborate with other CDF agencies nationally to form a new CDF Community Fund. The new fund will allow our valued church employees, parishioners and student community to continue their support of the Archdiocese of Hobart by investing in the new CDF Community Fund.
I have attached a Flyer for the Community Fund, and further details can be found at the link below.

http://www.catholicdevelopmentfund.org.au/cdfcommunityfund

If students/parents wish to keep their account with the Church, we will arrange to transfer their CDF Account to the newly formed CDF Community Fund on October 24. If this is their preferred option, then they will not need to reply to the letter.
New CDF Community Fund Account holders will be given online access and further details in a ‘Welcome Pack’ that will posted out to them if they select this option.
Students will be transferred to the Community Fund’s 31 Day Mission Saver (Student) Account. As CDF’s are no longer able to offer ‘At-Call’ accounts, the new Student accounts will require 31 Days’ notice to withdraw funds.

2. Close current CDF Account
If students/parents wish to close their CDF Account they can provide new account details for us to transfer the balance of accounts to. We will provide a form to complete and reply paid envelopes for forms to be returned to us. Note: These will need to be returned to us no later than 20 October 2017.

3. Donation
Students/Parents can also opt to donate the balance of their account/s to a charity or to the church.
