Principal’s Report
Prayer
God of the generations,
when we set our hands to labor,
thinking we work alone,
remind us that we carry
on our lips
the words of prophets,
in our veins
the blood of martyrs,
in our eyes
the mystics’ visions,
in our hands
the strength of thousands.

Canberra
I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge and thank Mrs. Di O’Rourke, Mrs. Katie Potter and Miss Jacinta Castles for the outstanding job they did in organising and supervising our Grade 6 trip to Canberra. Thanks to their hard work and commitment our students had a wonderful experience in our nation’s capital.
Our students should also be commended for the manner in which they conducted themselves whilst they were away. They were outstanding ambassadors for the St Cuthbert’s Catholic School community.
Thank you also to staff who stepped up into leadership roles in our absence. From all reports it was a very successful end to the term.
Summer Uniform and Hats–Term 4
A reminder to parents that all students need to be in full summer uniform during Term 4. Students are also required to wear hats at recess and lunchtimes during Term 4.
Food Fair
A reminder to parents and guardians to keep Friday, November 3 at 4.00pm free for the St Cuthbert’s Catholic School Food Festival. On behalf of our parents and friends I strongly encourage as many people as possible to support this event.
Events like this present a great opportunity for us to come together as a community and get to know each other a little better. We’d love to see you there.
Basketball
Congratulations to all of the students who represented our school in the regional basketball tournament on the weekend. A big thank you to Mr Sandy Clark for all of his efforts in organising our participation in this event. It has been a huge effort on his part with a few nervous moments in regard to uniforms being ready on time etc. I had the opportunity to watch a couple of games on Saturday in which our Grade 5/6 boys acquitted themselves very well against formidable opposition.
I also had the great the pleasure of watching our Grade 3/4 team play off in the Grand Final on Sunday at the Moonah Basketball Stadium. They played a wonderful game however were defeated by a very strong team from New Norfolk.
It was sensational to see our students representing their school with so much pride and enthusiasm over the weekend! We would especially like to thank all of our coaches, Dan Marr and Angela Palmer, Danni Oates, Kathryn Mitchell, Justin and Kate Vermey for giving up their time and expertise. Thank you also to all of the parents who came and supported their children throughout the tournament. Finally, we would like to thank our Parents and Friends for providing our snappy new basketball uniforms! We certainly looked the part.

We have a limited number of places available in classes Prep to Grade 6 for 2018. If you know of anyone who may be interested in joining us at St Cuthbert’s, please ask them to contact the office for an enrolment package.

Condolences
We offer our sincere condolences to Greg, Trudi, Christopher and William Harris on the recent passing their son and brother Alexander. We were deeply saddened by the death of our former student, Alexander, he was a much loved and respected member of our school community. Our thoughts and prayers are with them all.
With sympathy to the Taylor family (Magnus-Gr.6, Evie-Gr.3, Arianne-Prep) on the passing of their Great Grandmother. Mrs Frances Panton had a special history with St Cuthbert’s, as a past pupil in the first class enrolled in 1938. She was thrilled to be a special guest for the 75th Anniversary celebrations in 2013 and shared many fond memories of the school's beginnings. She proudly attended her great grandchildren's nativity plays and Grandparents day activities.
Athletics Champions
Well done to all the students who partook in the Athletics Carnival at the Domain last term. Thank you to all parents and friends who helped at Carnival, without you, it wouldn't be successful. Well done to all champions and runners-up and congratulations to all the students who competed on the day. The highlight was the 1500 metre race. It was wonderful to see so many students partaking in this race and the smiles on the children as they completed the race. Well done.
Congratulations
Congratulations to William Simaan (Gr.6) who was selected to play in the Southern Storm West U13 Boys cricket team coached by Tawanda Mupariwa. The boys went on to claim victory in the Hurricanes State Championships during the holidays. William was awarded Player of the Match in the Grand Final. Well done Will.
Well done to all students who represented the School over the last weekend. There was some sensational basketball, with the students showing off their skills and teamwork. My favourite memory was Max, who managed to get the ball stuck between the ring and the backboard - should have had bonus points for that Max!
The Grade 3/4 Team did exceptionally well reaching the Grand Final for their division. They were beaten by New Norfolk, but made it very difficult for them to win. A very good result to reach the Grand Final in our first Tournament. Well done.
Thank you to all parents who coached and managed the teams. We hope to do this again next year.
