Principal’s Report
Remembrance Day
In 2017, 11 November marks the 99th anniversary of the Armistice which ended the First World War (1914–18). Each year on this day Australians observe one minute’s silence at 11 am, in memory of those who died or suffered in all wars and armed conflicts.
At St Cuthbert’s Catholic School we will hold a Remembrance Day Prayer service in the Hall on Friday at 10.40am. Parents and Friends are most welcome to join us.
Food Fair
Thank you to everyone who attended our “Food Festival” last Friday night. It was a great gathering of the St Cuthbert’s Catholic School community. Prior to being appointed Principal at St Cuthbert’s, I’d often heard about the cohesive and supportive community that was clearly evident at this year’s event. It was a real treat to witness this first hand. For so many people to turn up despite the poor weather conditions speaks volumes to the level of support we have here at St Cuthbert’s.
On behalf of our school I would like to acknowledge and congratulate Tania Cobern and the Food Festival committee: Teresa Henley, Adele McGowan, Gina Nichols, Kate Vermey, Nicole Dunham, Nicole Goldsmith, Jackie Hughes, Louise Wright, Julie Clark and Sarah Gray, for doing such a wonderful job in organising and coordinating this event. Many long hours of planning and preparation go into ensuring these events go off without a hitch! Thank you also to all of the parents, students and staff who helped set up and pack up and who worked on stalls throughout the evening.

Family Life
We had an excellent attendance at last week’s Family Life sessions. If you were unable to attend, information packs are available for the various grades by contacting the office.
Southern Catholic Primary Athletics Carnival
The Southern Catholic Primary Athletics Carnival is being held this Friday, November 10 at the Domain Athletics Centre from 9.45am – 2.00pm. Congratulations to all of the students representing our school on Friday. We’d love to see as many parents as possible supporting our team on the day.
Enrolment 2018
We have a limited number of places available in classes Prep to Grade 6 for 2018. If you know of anyone who may be interested in joining us at St Cuthbert’s, please ask them to contact the office for an enrolment package.

Visit by Reuben Oates
Last week it was a privilege for us to have Tasmanian Aboriginal Artist, Reuben Oates spend four days working with students, creating an art mural. Reuben paints a contemporary style of dot paintings and when creating the art piece with students he spoke in detail about himself and his Aboriginal culture and identity.
Reuben is a descendent of Manarlagenna and the Trawoolway people of North Eastern Tasmania. His work focuses on connections with community, relationships and the passing on of knowledge from one generation to another. In working with the students Reuben believes he is learning from them as they are learning from him about culture and identity.
The art piece is a work in progress and we look forward to Reuben visiting again next year to continue the painting with our students.
