Goal Setting Interviews

This week we are holding Goal Setting Interviews for students in Grades 1-6 on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon. These interviews provide students and parents with a valuable opportunity to catch up with teachers and help set the agenda for personal growth throughout the year. We encourage all of our parents to speak to their children about their gifts and talents as well as those areas they find challenging and difficult in order to make the best possible use of the interview time.

Prep Information Evening

We had an extremely encouraging turn-up to our Prep Information Evening on Thursday, February 15, with 25 parents in attendance. Parents were given an overview of the protocols and procedures of the year as well as some insights and tips into assisting children with early literacy acquisition. If you were unable to attend please do not hesitate to contact Lachlan or Mary for any relevant information pertaining to the start of the year.

PIPS Assessment

Over the last two weeks students in Prep completed the Performance Indicators in Primary Schools (PIPS) assessment. The computer based test assess students on early Reading and Numeracy.

Swimming Program

Last week I had the opportunity to visit Oceana Health and Fitness Centre to witness our students participating in the Learn to Swim program. I was most impressed with how engaged and enthusiastic our students were with the program. We are indebted to the hard work of all of the crew at Oceana who are committed to ensuring that our students get the full benefit of their time at the pool! Thanks also goes to Mr Sandy Clark for his organisation and the tireless work of our staff.

Condolences

We offer our sincere condolences to Mrs Gemma Chivers whose mother, Judith, died last week. Our thoughts and prayers are with Gemma and her family at this sad time.

Parking and Pick-Up

Drop Off/ Pick Up Zone

Could all parents and guardians please comply to the following protocols in regard to the pick-up and drop off of students at St Cuthbert’s Catholic School:

  • Please ensure that the NO PARKING zone that is sign-posted outside the school on Corinna Road is strictly observed. This is a drop-off/pick-up zone only.
  • Cars must not be left unattended in the zone.
  • Parents are asked to drive around the block if they cannot see their child ready to be picked up.
  • At pick-up time could all drivers please enter Corinna Road from Lincoln Street and exit at Lowanna Rd. (essentially making Corinna Road one way at this time of the day).
  • There is no parent parking in the cul-de-sac in Moirunna Road near the Kindergarten and Prep classrooms.
  • Please be respectful and courteous to our neighbours by not parking over driveways.

Your cooperation and understanding of these protocols is greatly appreciated.

Duty of Care

A reminder to parents that our duty of care at St Cuthbert’s Catholic School is from 8.30am until 2.55pm.

RE in Grade 1/2 Green

In Grade 1/2 Green as we journey through Lent we have been focusing on praying, fasting and almsgiving. In the lessons Miss Prior has taken the children have been talking about how they can live their lives in the ‘Spirit of Jesus’.

“We use our kind hands to include others and be positive towards others”. Elena and Shandy.

“We show the ‘Spirit of Jesus’ by speaking nicely to each other”. Sam and Charlie.

Aboriginal Program

Last week some students went to TMAG to see “Balndhurr”, an Aboriginal exhibition of the ancient art of screen printing. We all learnt how to screen print and made our own. My favourite piece of art was of a baru (a crocodile). By Ellie Hogan (Grade 4).

Year 7 Enrolment Process

Message from the Tasmanian Catholic Education Office

To assist families with the transition process from primary to secondary schools the 2018 Year 7 enrolment process has been broadened to allow families of students in Years 5 and 6 to commence the enrolment process for Year 7 in Catholic education. Therefore, advertisements will be circulated shortly opening up the enrolment process for Year 6 students who will commence Year 7 in 2019 and Year 5 students who will commence Year 7 in 2020. This process will continue to be based on the TCEC Enrolment Policy, which can be accessed by the Tasmanian Catholic Education Office Website via the link below. In opening up this process we hope it will provide an opportunity for families to discuss any concerns they have about their child’s transition and provide certainty around their ongoing education pathway into Year 7.
