Principal’s Report

Dear Parents / Guardians

Holy Week

This week we celebrate Holy Week. During the week our students have been involved in presenting a series of liturgies that remember the final days of Jesus’ earthly life as recounted in the Scriptures. Various classes were given the responsibility for each part of the Holy Week narrative:

Wednesday, March 28, 10.15am

Grade 3/4 Holy Thursday Liturgy

Thursday, March 29

Grade 5/6 Good Friday Liturgy

Session 1 for Prep – Grade 2 at 9.30am

Session 2 for Grade 3/4 at 10.15am

Wednesday, April 4, 1.45pm

Grade 1/2 Blue and 1/2 Red Easter Liturgy

During the Easter Break I would strongly encourage you and your children to attend the Easter ceremonies within our parish. A timetable of the Easter festivities is included below.

Catholic Education Week

Last week we celebrated Catholic Education Week with a variety of activities. As part of our festivities we were very fortunate to host Archbishop Julian Porteous on Thursday for a “sausage sizzle” lunch followed by visits to classrooms across the school. Our students were very excited to have such an important visitor and participated enthusiastically in question and answer sessions with “His Grace”. Our Prep students were particularly taken with the special crucifix that His Grace was given by Saint John Paul II when he first became an Archbishop.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who helped to make our Catholic Education Week celebrations so memorable. Thank you to Mr. Lachlan Marsh for co-ordinating all of the events of the week, thank you to our Grade 5 students who represented our school at the Catholic Education Week Mass and especially those Grade 5 students who sang in the combined choir. Thank you to our administration and auxiliary staff for ensuring that everything ran so smoothly at school throughout the week.

Finally, we would like to thank Rebecca Balzer and her wonderful Parents and Friends team for organising and ensuring that we were all properly fed at our sausage sizzle lunch!

Spirit of Jesus Program

Our Grade 3/4 classes recently had a visit from Peter “Mitch” Mitchell who runs the Spirit of Jesus Program. The Spirit of Jesus Program examines how we can best live out Gospel values espoused by Jesus in our daily lives. Throughout the day our students were asked to respond to a number of key questions.

Read and enjoy.

1) What can I do to be better person this year?

  • I would like to improve on being more welcoming, kind, forgiving and friendly.
  • To be more of a WEST person (Welcoming, Encouraging, say Sorry, and be Thankful.
  • I want to be a person who has time for people.
  • I am going try and grow in the spirit of Jesus and show His Spirit to others.
  • I want to be more thankful to my parents by being more cheerful and helping at home.
  • Be more of a giver rather than a taker at home and school, by volunteering and coming to school and saying “Good Morning” to more people.

2) What small things can I do to be a better team player at home, and make it a happier place?

  • Doing as I am asked cheerfully, saying “ok with a smile” when I am asked to do something.
  • Volunteer to help set the table, take the rubbish out, tidy my room.
  • To be more cheerful at home, ask my parents how their day was, and to say “thanks” at least 4 times a day at home.
  • Be more pleasant to my sisters and brother and not to moan and groan as much.
  • Be more grateful for what my parents have done for me, be helpful, and do my chores cheerfully.

3) What small things can I do to be a better team player in my class and school.

  • Include others in games, say good morning to more people in Gr 3 & 4 when I come to school.
  • To be more thankful at school and use their name when I am thanking them.
  • Try harder at school, and follow instructions, and to Greet, Treat and Speak to people better.
  • Use more encouraging words when I am at school.
  • Say a personal Good Morning and a personal Good Afternoon to my teacher.

4) Where did you see the Spirit of Jesus over the last 2 days?

I saw the Spirit of Jesus when...

  • Josh, Kate and Angus let me play football. (Including)
  • Maddie and Lilian opened the door for me. (Thoughtful)
  • When Will, Edmund, invited me to play. (Friendship)
  • When Mr. Donnelly joined in our game of basketball and he encourages us. (Encouragement)
  • When mum always cooks tea and washes our clothes and dad drives us to sport.

5) What is your “OH Yeah” moment or the best part of the lesson that made sense to you.

  • The video of the boy who said “you get better at what you practice “. He said we should practice joy and happiness, and not complaining.
  • To Get Switched on to the Spirit of Jesus in my life.
  • That I should try to be a better person, by being kind and helpful and by being a “giver” and not a taker.
  • My Oh Yeah is that I can be a better team player at home by saying ”Ok with a smile”.
  • I can be more of a team player at home and at school.

What do you practice?
