Principal’s Report

Dear Parents / Guardians

It is hard to believe that we are just about to complete Term 1. Whilst it’s been a tad hectic at times we have had a great start to the year and have already achieved so much. To refresh your memory here is a list of some of the things we have ticked off already this year:

  • Staff Spirituality Day
  • Shrove Tuesday
  • Ash Wednesday
  • Learn to Swim Program
  • Student/Parent Goal Setting Meetings
  • Commencement/ Commissioning Mass
  • School Swimming Carnival
  • Grade 5/6 Cricket Days
  • St Cuthbert’s Feast Day
  • St Patrick’s Day Parade
  • Spirit of Jesus Day Grade 3/4
  • Catholic Education Week Festivities
  • Archbishop Julian Porteous’ visit
  • Holy Week Liturgies
  • Southern Catholic Swimming Carnival

Thank you to everyone who has volunteered his or her time during Term 1. Your assistance is greatly appreciated. On behalf of St Cuthbert’s Catholic School, I would like to wish everyone a peaceful and restful holiday. We look forward to working with you again in Term 2.

ANZAC DAY

ANZAC Day falls during the second week of the school holidays. Interested students are invited to attend the Lindisfarne ceremony. This year the parade will be forming and marching from Park Road (btwn Lincoln Street and Beltana Street).  Students should assemble at 7.00am in their full school uniform. We will then march behind the school banner to the ceremony at ANZAC Park which begins at 7.30am. Selected students will present a wreath on behalf of the school at the ceremony. The ceremony finishes at 8.15am.

Little Lanterns

Last week I had the opportunity to visit our newly launched Birth to Four program, Little Lanterns, for the first time this year. It was wonderful to see so many new families and pre-school children being welcomed into the St Cuthbert’s Catholic community. Our Birth to Four runs each Friday from 9.00am – 11.00am during term time.

Catholic Swimming Carnival

Congratulations to all of our students who participated in last week’s Catholic Swimming Carnival at the Hobart Aquatic Centre. There were some great individual performances and all students are to be commended for the way they represented their school. We were particularly impressed with the leadership qualities demonstrated by our Grade 5/6 students.

Audio Visual Equipment

I am pleased to inform everyone that our long-awaited audio visual equipment has been installed in the school hall. The acquisition of a large video screen, PA system and radio microphones will take our assemblies and gatherings to another level.

Building Program

I am delighted to inform our community that we are just about to embark on a very exciting new building program which will incorporate a new Early Years Centre and the re-development of our playground. This program will include a new kindergarten as well as facility for our Birth to Four program and Learning Support. The building project involves the demolition of our current kindergarten and Presentation House. I will be meeting with the Head of Facilities at the beginning of Term 2 to begin the planning process.

Welcome

Next term we welcome Megan Steeden in Grade 1/2 Red. Megan Steeden is a university student from Edith Cowan University and will be completing her final profession practice at St Cuthbert's in term 2. Megan has already visited St Cuthbert’s several times this term to acquaint herself with our school and the students in Grade 1/2 Red. I know that you will join with me in making Megan feel very welcome at our school.

Uniform Matters

All students from Prep-Grade 6 are to wear their Winter Uniform from the beginning of Term 2.

For girls this means either a tartan skirt or trousers, with the white shirt and jumper. The summer dress may not be worn again until Term 4.

For boys there isn’t any change, as they may wear either shorts or long grey trousers throughout the year.

Hats are not required during terms 2 and 3.

It takes 12 months to complete and is offered fully online or as blended online and face-to-face delivery.
