Prayer and Reflection
Last week St Cuthbert’s Catholic School hosted teachers from John Paul II Catholic School for professional learning and I was asked to present a prayer at the beginning of the session. I chose to share Leunig’s “Love one Another prayer.” It’s one of my favourite prayers and I have shared it with others on many occasions. I was actually accused of “overusing” the prayer at our our meeting. But a good prayer is like a good book or a great song, it deserves to be read or heard on multiple occasions.
Seriously, Leunig’s prayer captures the essence of this wonderful passage from St John’s Gospel that has been so evident these past three weeks. What does it really mean when Jesus commands us to love one another? It seems simple enough at first glance: I can love my family and my friends; I can even feel love for someone I’ve never met. But there was a condition that Jesus placed on this commandment; love one another as I have loved you.
How did Jesus love? He loved without condition and without seeking anything in return. He loved those that no one loved and even those who hated him and sought his downfall. Can we love those that challenge us and those that we find difficult? Can we love others when we are tired, grumpy and short on patience and time? Love another and you will be happy. It’s as simple and difficult as that!

Dear Parents / Guardians
Welcome Josh Williams
Last week we had the great pleasure of welcoming Mr. Josh Williams to our staff at St Cuthbert’s. Josh is undertaking a school support traineeship with AFL Sports Ready. Josh will be working on Thursdays and Fridays for the remainder of the year and will be assisting Mr. Sandy Clark in Physical Education as well as offering support across classes. Josh plays senior football for the Lauderdale Bombers and has already proved to be a hit with students especially at Recess and Lunch-time on the playground!
Japanese and Ukulele Club
In an effort to offer a greater choice of activities at lunch-time we will be starting two new clubs this week, Japanese and Ukulele. Japanese club will offer students an opportunity to learn some basic language skills as well as investigate and experience cultural activities from this fascinating country.
Ukulele club is all about having fun and hopefully learning to play a song or two.
Little Lanterns / C/Set Up for Success
Our pre-school program, Little Lantern’s, runs every Friday in our Kindergarten from 9.00am – 11.00am. Thanks to the great work of Mrs. Tamika Lowe, Mrs. Kathy Tanner and Mrs. Gina Nichols this program is proving to be extremely popular with members of the local community. The program offers parents, carers and children an opportunity to gain valuable insights into the requirements for the Early Years Education as well as acting as a wonderful introduction to the St Cuthbert’s Catholic School community.
St Cuthbert’s Catholic School has been selected as a trial school for the Tasmanian Catholic Education Office’s B-4 initiative called C/SET up for Success. As a trial school, we have been asked to trial structure, procedures and resources that have been developed for the initiative, and to support the TCEO in garnering feedback and data, which will be used to fine tune the program.
We will be supported by Mrs. Kate Turner and Mrs. Leeann Medwin from the TCEO who will be attending as many sessions as possible and adapting and developing resources to suit our needs. Both Kate and Leeann were in attendance last Friday and were very impressed with our Little Lanterns program!
If you know of anybody who is interested in joining us, please spread the word.

Student Free Day

Drop Off/Pick-up
Dropping off and picking up our children can be one of the most stressful times of the day especially here at St Cuthbert’s where the traffic can be congested and parking places are difficult to find. With this in mind I think that it is timely that we review our protocols and procedures:
- Please ensure that the NO PARKING zone that is sign-posted outside the school on Corinna Road is strictly observed. This is a drop-off/pick-up zone only.
- Cars must not be left unattended in the zone.
- Parents are asked to drive around the block if they cannot see their child ready to be picked up.
- At pick-up time could all drivers please enter Corinna Road from Lincoln Street and exit at Lowanna Rd. (essentially making Corinna Road one way at this time of the day)
- There is no parent parking in the cul-de-sac in Moirunna Road near the Kindergarten and Prep classrooms.
- Please be respectful and courteous to our neighbours by not parking over driveways.
- Drivers risk receiving an infringement notice if they park illegally.
Your co-operation and understanding is greatly appreciated. Thank you for your continued patience, tolerance and consideration.

ANZAC POEM – Loralei Nesbitt
The soldiers lined up one by one.
Standing tall holding their gun.
Some did not make it,
Even with a first aid kit.
There they rest…
Lest We Forget
Laying at home, the families forlorn
We remember the Australian, New Zealand Army Corps.
As we listen to the bugle play the last post,
We think about the ones we loved the most.
There they rest…
Lest We Forget
The Our Father plays,
We remember the day,
The minute of silence,
We remember the violence.
They stood tall,
We heard their call.
There they rest…
Lest We Forget
All the flags raised halfway,
Let’s all remember this day.
There they rest…
Lest We Forget
ANZAC Poem – Riley Oates
Poppies are red
The rain is light blue
They went to war
And fought for you
ANZAC Poem – Larissa Carlyon
The poppies died red,
In respect of the ANZACs,
We lower our heads.
With all our heads low,
We pray for all of those in war,
As we hear the Ode.
As the Last Post plays,
Silence comes on us all,
Think of those passed away.
ANZAC Poem – Maddy Burnett
I woke to the sounds of guns firing and cannons
blasting.
It certainly isn’t like waking up to the sounds of leaves rustling and
birds singing their wake up songs.
I can hear battle men screaming in extreme agony.
That’s definitely not like the scream you hear when a child grazes their
knee.
I smell sweat, urine, and fear in my small crawl
space.
It’s certainly a completely different smell to back home.
My good mate Tommy has gone down.
There are splatters of blood landing on my face, like flies on a hot
summers day.
Today I am paying my condolences and respect to those who
died and fought in battle.
I’m a survivor and I’m a fighter.
Lest We Forget…
