Principal’s Report

Dear Parents / Guardians

As we head toward the end of another very productive term at St Cuthbert’s I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has made a contribution to the education our students. Your assistance in the classroom, on excursions and at sporting events is greatly appreciated. I hope that everyone is able to spend some quality time with family friends over the holiday break. We look forward to working again with you in Term 3.

Parents and Friends

On behalf of the St Cuthbert’s Catholic School community, I would like to thank our Parents and Friends Association for their generous donations for the following items:

Guided Reading Books

$2500.00

Garden Beds

$1000.00

New School Marquee

$2200.00

PBS Signs

$ 480.00

Grade 3/4 Resources

$ 500.00

Total

$6680.00

This a significant amount of money and will go towards the provision of much needed resources that will benefit all students. We are extremely grateful to our P and F for all of their efforts.

Mosaic Wall

Thanks to the hard work and creative talents of Amelia Kenny, our beautiful mosaic wall is finally finished. Amelia has generously given up hours and hours of her own time to work on this massive project. The final results are outstanding.

Farewell / Thank you

At the end of term, we say farewell to Miss Megan Steedan and Mrs. Caroline Conolin who have completed their professional experience. We wish them every success as they pursue their careers in education. We also say farewell and thanks to Mrs. Louise Zegveld who has been teaching in Grade 1/2 Green for the past two terms.

Next term we welcome back Mrs. Stephanie Cripps and Mrs. Claire Chivers. Both will be teaching on Thursdays and Fridays.

Student Free Day

The first day of Term 3, July 23 will be a student free day. St Cuthbert’s Catholic School Staff will be attending professional learning at MacKillop College.

Parking / Drop Off-Pick Up

We have had a serious issue with people parking incorrectly in Moirunna Road. Driveways and No Standing Zones must be kept clear at all times. Access needs to be maintained for students with disabilities. Drivers risk receiving an infringement notice if they continue to park illegally.

At the end of last week, you may have noticed the police presence at Drop Off and Pick-up time. The major concern from the police is that traffic continues to flow along Corinna Road at these times. To assist with this, parents and guardians are asked to only pull into the drop-off / pick-up area if there is sufficient room. If this is not the case, we ask that you continue along Corinna Road and around the block.

Your cooperation with these matters is greatly appreciated.

RE News from Grade 1/2 Red

In 1/2 Red this Term, we have been learning about the Sacraments of Initiation. We created some artwork for the Sacrament First Eucharist and enjoyed using glitter glue to decorate the chalice.

Aboriginal Art Piece

We would like to say a huge thank you to Reuben Oates, Aboriginal Artist who created our spectacular Aboriginal art piece which is now hanging in the hall. Reuben has been an inspiration to our students. Those who worked with Reuben on this project gained a great insight into Aboriginal Culture and the importance of connection to the land. Aboriginal students and their friends enjoyed decorating around their handprints, creating dot patterns and painting their own designs on the animals drawn by Reuben. As they worked together on the art piece Reuben talked to the children about the importance of culture, land and connection to family. The nine platypuses represent the nine traditional Aboriginal Nations of Tasmania.

Thank you also to Steven Zegveld who made the frame for the painting and John Sawyer for his involvement in the co-ordination of the project.
