Prayer and Reflection

Jesus Feeds Five Thousand

The feeding of the multitude is a profoundly political statement. Quite simply, there is sufficient food in our world to ensure that no one should ever be hungry. Sadly, the distribution of that food is such that there are some in our world whose bellies are expanding from an excess of food, while others’ are distended from the lack of it. We can easily feed the entire world. It is the responsibility of those of us in the developed world with more than we need to bring about a more equitable distribution with those who don’t have enough to live.

Acting Principal’s Report

Dear Parents / Guardians

Welcome back to Term Three at St Cuthbert’s Catholic School. We have many exciting and interesting learning opportunities for our students this term.

We also welcome the return of two of our class teachers, Mrs Claire Chivers (3/4 Red) and Mrs Stephanie Cripps (1/2 Green), both of whom return from maternity leave. We are delighted to have them back with us for the second half of the year.

Farewells

At the end of Term Two, we said farewell to Xavier Wright (3/4 Red) and his family who were moving to China. We wish them all the very best on this big adventure.

We also said goodbye to Axel Wisby (Grade 1/2 Blue).

Parent Teacher Interviews

Thank you to the parents who attended Parent Teacher Interviews last Wednesday. Our teachers value these meetings as an opportunity to discuss your child’s recent school report and their progress to date. We believe that effective family and school partnerships are key to the success of our students.

ICAS Assessments

Over the coming weeks some of our students from Grades 2-6 will be participating in the ICAS English (Tuesday, 31st July) and ICAS Mathematics (Tuesday, 14th August) Tests. We wish our students well with these most challenging assessments.

Loose Parts Play

Last week our students began experimenting with our loose parts play equipment. Loose parts play appeals to students of all ages and stages, enabling creativity and collaboration. The use of loose parts encourages the application of social, emotional skills learnt in the classroom.

A huge thank you to everyone who has contributed odds and ends to our loose parts play resources. If you still have anything to donate, please contact either Mr Fabrizio or our School Office.

New Seedlings

Thank you to Mr Sawyer and Mr Fabrizio for accessing some new plant seedlings for our school. These were donated from the Nursery and Seed Centre Sustainable Timber Tasmania up in Perth, Northern Tasmania. We were given these as part of National Tree Day. The seedlings have been planted in the garden area up behind the School Hall. Thank you also to the Grade 5/6 students who planted these on Friday.

Parking / Drop Off-Pick Up

Recently we have had a serious issue with people parking incorrectly in Moirunna Road. Driveways and No Standing Zones must be kept clear at all times. Access needs to be maintained for students with disabilities. Drivers risk receiving an infringement notice if they continue to park illegally.

The major concern from the police is that traffic continues to flow along Corinna Road at these times. To assist with this, parents and guardians are asked to only pull into the drop-off / pick-up area if there is sufficient room. If this is not the case, we ask that you continue along Corinna Road and around the block.

Your cooperation we these matters is greatly appreciated.

Sacramental Preparation

Over the last few weeks our sacramental candidates have received the Sacrament of First Eucharist at various masses across the Parish.

This concludes a lengthy and fulfilling journey to complete the Sacraments of Initiation in the Catholic Church.

We congratulate our candidates from St Cuthbert's and we especially thank the parents for their commitment to their child's faith journey.

Included are photos of our St Cuthbert's students with their Confirmation Certificates and photos of Aleaha Dare and Ellie Hogan being welcomed into the Church family at the Church of the Incarnation in June.
