Prayer and Reflection

Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Song of Mary (The Magnificat)

My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord,
my spirit rejoices in God, my Saviour;
for he has looked with favour on his lowly servant,
and from this day all generations will call me blessed.
The Almighty has done great things for me:
holy is his Name.
He has mercy on those who fear him in every generation.
He has shown the strength of his arm,
he has scattered the proud in their conceit.
He has cast down the mighty from their thrones,
and has lifted up the lowly.
He has filled the hungry with good things,
and has sent the rich away empty.
He has come to the help of his servant Israel
for he has remembered his promise of mercy,
the promise he made to our fathers,
to Abraham and his children for ever.

Acting Principal’s Report

Dear Parents / Guardians

Welcome Back!

We welcome Mr Donnelly back from his overseas travels. We hope he had a wonderful time away and look forward to working with him during the remainder of Term Three.

100th Day of School

On Monday, 6th August students from Prep to Grade 4 dressed up for the 100th day of school. Students celebrated by dressing as though they were 100 years old. There were many delightful costumes! Some classes also focused on learning about the number 100 and completed fun activities as part of this special day.

Robin and the Sherwood Hoodies

Last Tuesday, 7th August our students from Kinder to Grade 6 attended the musical Robin and the Sherwood Hoodies. This musical was the culmination of many hours of hard work by students and staff at St John’s Catholic School, Richmond. Our students really enjoyed themselves and found the acting and humour to be highly entertaining.

Krispy Kreme Doughnut Fundraiser

Krispy Kreme Doughnut orders have been counted up and sent off as part of our latest P&F fundraiser. Thank you to the many families who have supported this venture. Doughnuts will be delivered to St Cuthbert’s School on Thursday, 23rd August. A big thank you to the P&F members who have coordinated this fabulous fundraiser.

Feast of the Assumption of Mary

Today is the Feast of the Assumption of Mary. All students from Kinder to Grade 6 attended Mass in the School Hall this morning. Thank you to the family and community members who attended this Mass with us. This Feast is one of the few Holy Days of Obligation remaining on the Liturgical Calendar where all Catholics are expected to attend Mass. The Feast of the Assumption of Mary celebrates the importance of Mary as a figure of devotion in the Catholic Church.

We congratulate the students from St Cuthbert’s who recently received the Sacrament of Confirmation. These students were acknowledged with a gift during Mass.

Caritas Appeal – Indonesian Earthquake Emergency

Tomorrow (Thursday, 16th August) the Grade 6 Caritas Leaders are holding a fundraiser to support the efforts of Caritas Australia in responding to the Indonesian Earthquake Emergency. Students may wear free clothes on this day, with the theme being red and white (the colours of the Indonesian flag). Students are asked to bring a gold coin donation. However, a donation of any amount would be greatly appreciated. We thank you in advance for your support and generosity.

Book Week Parade

This year’s theme for Book Week is ‘Find Your Treasure’. We are planning to celebrate Book Week at St Cuthbert’s by focusing on a shortlisted book in each class. To add to the fun, we will also have a dress up parade. The parade will be on Thursday, 23rd August at 9am. Students from Kinder to Grade 6 are encouraged to dress up for the occasion. If your child wishes to dress as a book character, we ask that they also bring along the book that inspired their costume.

Beginning of the School Day

We have noticed recently that a number of students are arriving at school quite late of a morning. We would like to remind families that classrooms open at 8:30am and the bell for the beginning of the day goes at 8:45am. When students are late, this can impact their learning as they miss out on crucial instructions that have been given for the day.

Early Students

At St Cuthbert’s Catholic School supervision of students begins at 8:30am. If your child arrives at school before this time, they must sit quietly on the seats outside the Office until their classroom is opened at 8:30am. Early students are not to be left unsupervised in the playground.

End of the School Day

At the end of the school day students are either to be collected from their classrooms or picked up from the Landing area on Corinna Road. The Landing area at the top of our school is supervised by our staff. We strongly discourage families from asking their children to wait down on the bottom playground or near the highway to be collected; this area is not supervised by our staff.

Your cooperation with these matters is greatly appreciated.

NEAA (Nagle Educational Alliance of Australia)

Gathering of Presentation Schools – Friday 10th August, 2018
at St Mary’s College

On Friday the 10th August, a number of St Cuthbert’s students participated in the NEAA (Nagle Educational Alliance of Australia) Student Conference at St Mary’s College. Students from Presentation Schools in the Hobart region were invited to be part of the NEAA Student Conference.

Students had the opportunity to participate in games and activities to develop bonds with students from across the nation. A combined school’s assembly was also held with an address from the President of the NEAA, Mrs Dale Morrow, Sister Gabrielle Morgan PBVM Congregational Leader and Miss Molly Gerke, United Nations Ambassador from the International Presentation Association. Singer song writer, Trish Watts, also led a combined Presentation choir.

This was a wonderful opportunity for our school to be part of the Presentation family.

Student thoughts

I met a lovely girl called Tabatha and had an amazing morning with her. We played games, did drawings and then listened to a wonderful assembly. I had a great time.
Ruby Nikel

I loved going to St Mary’s and doing activities with my buddy Shannon. I also enjoyed meeting new people. It was a great opportunity. I loved it.
Lucy Henley

It was a great experience. I got to play with my old buddy from when I was in Prep. I got to meet new people and saw some of my friends.
