Reflecting on Term 3

Principal’s Report

Dear Parents / Guardians

Thank you

As we head toward the end of another busy term at St Cuthbert’s, I would like to take this opportunity to thank and acknowledge everyone who has contributed to the education of our students throughout the term. We are blessed to have a wonderfully supportive community. Your help in the classroom, at sporting and community events, and on excursions is greatly appreciated.

I hope that everyone is able to take a well-deserved break and that you get an opportunity to spend some time with family and loved ones. We look forward to working again with you in Term 4.

Canberra Trip

Last week our Grade 5/6 students travelled to Canberra. We were very fortunate to have Advisory Board Member, Justin Vermey accompany us on the trip. Justin has very kindly shared his reflections of his time on the Canberra trip:

Last week I was fortunate enough to be involved as both a Grade six parent & a member representing the St Cuthbert’s Catholic School Advisory Board to attend this year’s Canberra Trip.

This experience offered all the children and myself an amazing opportunity to not only learn about our nation’s capital & history but to also see the true enrichment that our teachers & students have representing St Cuthbert’s Catholic School. The days were action packed & provided an outstanding out of class room learning experience that truly reflects the schools Positive Behaviour Support (PBS)-

    • Be Respectful
    • Be Safe
    • Be Your Best

The students would have an end of day reflection with all teachers led by Mr. Fabrizio which truly brought out the best in them all. Group participation and encouragement was highlighted throughout the trip. The continual sense and feeling of strengthened friendships through learning and play is fantastic for this school moving forward. God moments, dob in a good deed and “What are you truly thankful for?” were just a few moments that encourage us all to sit back and appreciate why we really are lucky to be involved in St Cuthbert’s.

The Grade 5/6 students should be highly commended for their behaviour and school representation. These leaders of our school are magnificent role models for the younger year groups and I wish them every success in their future.

I’d like to thank all involved for contributing to this experience; Mr. Marcus Donnelly, Mrs. Di O’Rourke, Mrs. Deb Williams, Mr. Rom Fabrizio, Mrs. Juanita Topham, the parents / carers of our students & last but not least the students.

We had many people come up to the school group & ask where we were from. One lady in particular from the National Bonsai Collection of Australia commended the children’s behaviour and respectfulness which speaks volumes. Another tour leader from the National War Memorial was appreciative of our students for taking their time to thank her for the tour.

    Kind regards,
    Justin Vermey

    Deputy Principal Model

As part of a new leadership model, we are shifting away from an Assistant Principal model to a model of one Deputy Principal in Catholic Schools in Tasmania. This model has been researched and identified as the preferred system model moving forward in preparing emerging and future leaders and increasing leadership density across the system. The Deputy Principal will be released off class and will not have a teaching role as in our current Assistant Principal model. The Catholic Education Office will be providing schools with additional staffing to ensure that current teaching loads are not diminished. The Deputy Principal position will be advertised at the end of this week.

    Building Project

As I mentioned in the last newsletter, Morrison and Breytenbach Architects have been appointed as our architects for the Early Years Building project. Check out their website, pretty impressive!

Preparations have commenced, with regular meetings taking place to discuss the formation of plans.

    AFL Breakfast

This Friday, September 28 we will celebrate the end of Term and the AFL Season with a Grand Final Breakfast and Footy Colours Day. Thank you to the P&F, who are providing breakfast from 7.30am.

A Coffee Van will be onsite to purchase hot drinks.

Children must be supervised by their families until 8.30am when staff assume this responsibility. Please refer to the letter below for further details.

    Enrolment 2019

We are about to begin the process of planning and organizing classes and staffing for 2019. If your family is leaving at the end of the year could you please notify the office as soon as possible? Your assistance in this matter is greatly appreciated.
