Prayer and Reflection
The Feast of All Saints on November 1, invites us to remember that although we are each called to some measure of solitude in order to discern what God wants to bring forth in our lives, we never go about this entirely alone. All Saints Day is an occasion to celebrate and revisit the faithful who have gone before us (and not just those who have been canonically designated as saints), those whose lives provide inspiration for us who follow on the path. The saints, who are not models of perfection but rather people who opened themselves to the ways that God sought to work in and through their particular lives and gifts, invite us not to copy their lives but to draw encouragement from them as we seek to let God do this same work in our own particular lives.

Retirement
Mrs. Maria Cooling has announced that she will be retiring at the end of the year. Maria has given outstanding service to the St Cuthbert’s Catholic School community for over twenty years. As a former student and parent, her association with our school goes back even further. There will be opportunities to formally farewell Maria at the end of the year. In the meantime, I ask you to join with me in congratulating Maria on her retirement and thanking her for her wonderful contributions over so many years.
Summer Uniform and Hats–Term 4
A reminder to parents that all students need to be in full summer uniform from Monday 29th October. Students are also required to wear hats at recess and lunchtimes during Term 4.
Basketball
Congratulations to all of the students who represented our school in the regional basketball tournament on the weekend. A big thank you to Mr Sandy Clark for all of his efforts in organising our participation in this event. I had the opportunity to watch a couple of games on Saturday in which all of our students acquitted themselves very well.
I also had the great the pleasure of watching our Grade 3/4 girls and Grade 3/4 boys teams play off in the Grand Final on Sunday afternoon at the Moonah Basketball Stadium. Both teams were outstanding with the boys being narrowly defeated by Corpus Christi and our girls winning a nail-biter by two points against St Mary’s College to win their division.
It was sensational to see our students representing their school with so much pride and enthusiasm over the weekend! We would especially like to thank all of our coaches and managers: Dan Marr and Angela Palmer, Danni Oates, Justin and Kate Vermey, Juanita Topham, David McKenzie, Julie Clark, Tania Cobern, Kathryn Mitchell, Jayne McKenzie, Matt Booth, David Cutcliffe for giving up their time and expertise. Thank you also to all of the parents who came and supported their children throughout the tournament. Once again, we would like to thank our Parents and Friends for providing our snappy basketball uniforms! We certainly looked the part.
Mr Clark would like to say thank you very much to all the parents for their commitment over the weekend. We have had a very successful basketball tournament and we look forward to doing it all again next year.
