Prayer and Reflection
Reflection:
Jesus reminds us “You must love your neighbour as yourself”. There’s an unspoken, underlying idea here that is absolutely crucial. Before you can love your neighbour, you must first love yourself. To say that you love yourself today can imply a level of boastfulness or ego. However, what is required is a genuine love of self – an acceptance; a respect; a true valuing of self. Only then can we know how to treat others. When we ask ourselves how we would want to be treated it points us towards how we should treat others. What is summed up so simply by Jesus is a very difficult task.
Australian poet and cartoonist, Michael Leunig suggests the following:
“Love one another and you will be happy.”
It’s as simple and difficult as that.
There is no other way.
AMEN

Retirement
Mrs. Maria Cooling has announced that she will be retiring at the end of the year. Maria has given outstanding service to the St Cuthbert’s Catholic School community for over twenty years. As a former student and parent, her association with our school goes back even further. There will be opportunities to formally farewell Maria at the end of the year. In the meantime, I ask you to join with me in congratulating Maria on her retirement and thanking her for her wonderful contributions over so many years.
Grandparents and Special Person’s Day
Last Wednesday was “Grandparents and Special Person’s Day” at St Cuthbert’s. It was wonderful to see so many of our grandparent’s and special friends in attendance. I know that our students were very excited to welcome their special visitors into their classrooms on the day. Special thanks to our Parents and Friends for providing the morning tea and big thankyou to Ms. Freeman for doing such a great job preparing our musicians and singers.

School Disco
In a first for St Cuthbert’s Catholic School we held a silent disco in the school hall last Friday evening. All students were issued with a pair of wireless headphones where they were given the choice of selecting from 3 tunes at any given time. We thank our Parents and Friends for organizing this unique event! A great time was had by all.

The Character Strengths of a Flourishing Life
Why Emotional Intelligence Matters
Religious Education in Grade 1 / 2 Green
During our unit of work on “Loving God and others, our call to Mission” we have been focusing on the importance of caring for others and being inspired by people like Jesus and Nano Nagle in the way we live our lives.
“Caring is that you respect someone with love and compassion and you never say “You can’t play with me”. You treat someone carefully and give them a hug if they feel sad. When your mum cooks dinner give her a thank you”. Willow
“Caring is like helping my mum feed the dogs. I help dad build stuff. I help my sister brush her teeth”. Micah
Nano Nagle was the “Lady of the Lantern” who went around and looked for kids who were homeless on the streets. She was the first Presentation Nun. She modelled her life on the life of Jesus. Lacey
