Principal's Report

Refugee_week.jpg

Lord,

Our world is large, and yet the global community is so fragile.

We glimpse the needs of our sisters and brothers,

And those needs are great.

We want to turn away, but you call us back.

We want simple solutions,

But you want us to help solve the complex problems.

Through the gospels, you call us to listen, to learn, to reflect and to act.

Give us a deep sense of our place in this web of Creation.

Dear Parents and Guardians

This week is Refugee Week. In our world according to UNHCR there are over 70 million forcibly displaced people in our world, over double the population of Australia.

The key aims of Refugee Week are:

  • To celebrate the ways in which people from refugee backgrounds enrich our communities and culture.
  • To educate the public about who refugees are and why they have come to Australia, and to understand the many challenges they face in doing so.
  • To foster empathy and understanding and in doing so, encourage a safe and welcoming environment for people seeking safety in Australia.
  • To enable communities and individuals to take positive action, and stand in solidarity with people seeking asylum and displaced people in Australia and around the world.

Student Free Day

A reminder to parents that Monday, July 21, is a student-free day.  Staff at St. Cuthbert’s will participate in a system-wide professional learning day.  Students will commence Term 3 on Tuesday, July 22.

Tasmanian Primary All Schools Cross Country

Yesterday, our students braved the cold and wet conditions to take part in the annual Cross Country excursion at Symmons Plains. Despite the chilly weather and a wet, muddy track, spirits were high and our students gave it their all. A big congratulations to Tilly Ross, Imogen Followes (156/254) and Harvey Johnson (119/235) for strong performances, and to Cali Robustelli (77/254), Ruben Beissner (53/235), and Zac Read (107/235) for pushing through challenging conditions with determination. Ari Cassidy and Hamish Davie showed great encouragement towards others, demonstrating excellent sportsmanship throughout the day. A few notable mentions:

Ruben Beissner clocked an impressive 53rd out of 235 students in his debut year.

Ari Cassidy came 96th out of 237 in 2024, but posted 27th this year out of 274.

Tilly Ross came 13th out of 228 in 2024, but posted 11th this year out of 248.

Hamish Davie came 141 out of 237 in 2024, but broke into the top 100 with a nice 84th out of 273.

It was inspiring to see our students supporting each other, smiling through the mud, and showing resilience in true school spirit. Thank you to the staff for organising the day and to the parents/guardians who came along to support. What a memorable day for our school community!

Canteen

We are pleased to announce that our Canteen will resume service starting next Tuesday, 24 June.

Lunch orders can be placed for every Tuesday and Thursday during term time, through the Spriggy Schools online lunch ordering system.

Using Spriggy Schools makes lunch ordering convenient for both families and our canteen provider.

Steps to get started

1. Go to www.spriggyschools.com.au to register and download the app.

2. Add a profile for each of your children, making sure you select ‘St Cuthbert’s Catholic School, Lindisfarne’ and your child’s class.

3. Start placing lunch orders! You can place orders in advance.

The Spriggy page does include other tabs but we will only be utilising the Canteen tab.

If you have any questions, please contact Spriggy Schools via their webchat on the website or in the app.
