Holy Father, god of Love
You are the Creator of all things.
We acknowledge the pain and shame of our history
and the suffering of Our peoples,
and we ask your forgiveness.
We thank you for the survival of Indigenous cultures
Our hope is in you because you gave your Son Jesus
to reconcile the world to you.
We pray for your strength and grace to forgive,
accept and love one another, as you love us
and forgive and accept us in the sacrifice of your Son.
Give us the courage to accept the realities of our history
So that we may build a better future for our Nation.
Teach us to respect all cultures.
Teach us to care for our land and waters.
Help us to share justly the resources of this land.
Help us to bring about spiritual and social change to improve the quality of life for all groups in our communities, especially the disadvantaged
Help young people to find true dignity and self-esteem by your Spirit
May your power and love be the foundations on which we build our families, our communities and our Nation,
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen
Dear Parents and Guardians
National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.
The National Reconciliation Week (NRW) 2025 theme, Bridging Now to Next, reflects the ongoing connection between past, present and future.
Bridging Now to Next calls on all Australians to step forward together, to look ahead and continue the push forward as past lessons guide us.
In the 2025 theme artwork created by Kalkadoon woman Bree Buttenshaw, native plants − which are known for regenerating after fire and thriving through adversity − symbolise our collective strength and the possibilities of renewal. This is a time for growth, reflection, and commitment to walking together.
Australia’s history of reconciliation is not a linear one, we have made great strides and experienced disappointing setbacks.
Twenty-five years ago, Corroboree 2000 brought together Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and non-Indigenous leaders in a historic call for reconciliation. We continue that work in 2025, inviting all Australians to join us in Bridging Now to Next – building a more united and respectful nation.
Last week at St Cuthbert’s we acknowledged Reconciliation Week with a beautiful Sorry Day assembly. At our assembly we learnt about the importance of sharing stories, healing, acceptance, celebrating and building a better future together.
Farewell to Mrs. Lee Carrick
This week we farewell a truly cherished member of the St Cuthbert’s Catholic School community Mrs. Lee Carrick as she retires after an extraordinary 23 years of devoted service.
Lee has worn many hats during her time with us; teacher assistant, library technician, passionate literacy advocate, and above all, a constant source of care and encouragement for students and staff alike. Her love of reading was contagious, and she was instrumental in introducing hundreds of children to the magic of books. Her quiet influence has helped shape a generation of lifelong readers.
As both a dedicated staff member and a proud parent of daughters, Laura and Erin, who attended the school, Lee’s connection to our community has been deep and heartfelt. Beyond the school gates, she has been an active and faith-filled member of the Lindisfarne–Bellerive Parish, always generous with her time and spirit.
Lee’s outstanding contribution to St Cuthbert’s has left a lasting legacy. Her great sense of humor, her gentle wisdom, and her warm presence will be deeply missed in our staffroom and across the school grounds. She has made our community stronger, kinder, and more joyful.
As she begins this next exciting chapter of her life, we offer Lee our heartfelt thanks and best wishes. May retirement bring her all the joy, peace, and adventure she so richly deserves.
You will be greatly missed, Lee. Thank you for everything.
Walking in Faith: Preparing for Pentecost and Confirmation
As we journey through the final weeks of the Easter season, our St. Cuthbert’s school community turns its focus toward Pentecost—the moment when the Holy Spirit descended upon the Apostles, igniting the birth of the Church. Celebrated 50 days after Easter, Pentecost marks the conclusion of the Easter season and the beginning of the Church's mission in the world.
In our classrooms, students are deepening their understanding of the Sacraments—visible signs of God's invisible grace. These sacred rituals, instituted by Christ, serve as tangible expressions of God's presence and love in our lives. Through the Sacraments, we encounter God's grace in a personal and transformative way.
We extend our heartfelt prayers and support to our Sacramental candidates—Zac Casillan, Hamish Davie, Tareq Frjo and all others across the Bellerive-Lindisfarne parish—as they prepare to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation on Wednesday, 18th June at Corpus Christi Church. Confirmation strengthens the grace of Baptism, sealing the candidates with the gift of the Holy Spirit and empowering them to live out their faith with courage and conviction.
As a community, let us continue to support and pray for our candidates, asking the Holy Spirit to guide them on their spiritual journey. May this time of preparation deepen their faith and inspire them to be witnesses of Christ's love in the world.
Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in them the fire of your love.

Kinder to Grade 2 – Grandparents & Special Persons Day
Date: Wednesday, 18th June
Time: 2pm-3pm
In Week 8, we warmly invite grandparents and special people in the lives of our Kindergarten to Grade 2 students to join us at school for a special afternoon.
This event is a wonderful opportunity for grandparents or other significant adults to spend meaningful time with their grandchild, visit their classroom, and take part in some simple, joyful activities together.
To make this day more manageable for families with multiple children, Grades 3–6 will host their Grandparents and Special Persons Day in Term 3. This way, special guests can enjoy dedicated time with each grandchild.
Classroom visits and activities will begin at 2:00 PM, and more detailed information will be shared from class teachers in the coming weeks.
We look forward to celebrating this special occasion with you!
Intergenerational Playgroup
Kinder have been fortunate enough to be involved in piloting an Intergenerational Playgroup with the Queen Victoria Residential Facility. The residents have visited the Early Years Centre and we have walked down to visit them! This is aimed at creating a stronger relationship with our Community and building bonds that span generations. We have been listening to the resident's stories and how their schools used to look "back in the olden days". We have so much to learn from them and they have loved spending time with us too. Val said she "hasn't been this happy in years". We look forward to expanding these learning opportunities throughout the school as the year progresses.

Farm Excursion
Last week, the Kinder children went on an excursion to Mrs V's Farm! We explored the land, collected sticks, made shelters and investigated the shells along the shoreline. We have been learning about the River, and how we need to care for it, so we also collected any litter that we found. We met all of the animals including the sheep who used to be in Kinder! On the way down, the bus stopped so we could visit Neil the Seal. He was so funny and noisy! We had an amazing day in the fresh air exploring all of the wonders that a farm has to offer.

Grade 1/2 Unit Science Exhibition of Learning
Last week, our Grade 1/2 students showcased their scientific understanding and creativity in a captivating Science Exhibition centered on the needs of Australian animals. As a culmination of their recent science unit, students designed and constructed dioramas that vividly depicted various animal habitats, highlighting how different species meet their basic needs for survival.
The exhibition transformed our classrooms into a vibrant gallery of miniature ecosystems. From lush rainforests to arid deserts, each diorama was a testament to the students' research and imagination. The young scientists eagerly explained their projects to visiting families, discussing the specific adaptations and environmental factors that enable animals to thrive in their respective habitats.
We were delighted by the outstanding turnout and the enthusiastic support from our school community. Your presence and engagement made the event truly special for the students, reinforcing the value of their hard work and learning journey. Thank you to all families who attended and celebrated the achievements of our budding scientists. Your encouragement plays a vital role in fostering a love for learning and discovery in our students.

Student Achievements
I competed in the Black Square Chess tournament last weekend. After being in Number 1 for the majority of the day, I lost the lead at the end, but I still managed a medal.
Connor Panton
The Prep classes have been very busy in the Art room this term. Using their prior knowledge of different types of lines, and using recycled paper pulp, they created these amazing Skewer Sculptures.
Students had to follow explicit instructions for the first two parts of their sculpture and were then encouraged to add their own flair to their artwork.
