Dear Parents and Guardians
Happy St Patrick’s Day
We have a longheld tradition of celebrating St Patrick’s Day at St Cuthbert’s and this year was no exception. Thank you to everyone for dressing up in the green and getting into the spirit of the day. A special mention to Nora Lilley from Prep Blue for her beautiful Irish Dancing!
School Effectiveness Surveys
This year, St Cuthbert’s Catholic School has entered a discernment phase of School Effectiveness, to develop our strategic priorities over the next four-year period. As part of this initiative, Insight SRC is conducting surveys among students, parents, and staff on behalf of St Cuthbert’s and Catholic Education Tasmania. This effort aims to better understand perceptions from all stakeholders and gather valuable insights into our current environment. Your open and honest feedback is crucial in helping us reflect on our present state and effectively plan for the future. Please take the time to share your insights, an opportunity to shape our path forward together. Information will be distributed from next week.
Swimming Carnival Results
Congratulations to Presentation House for being the winning team at this year’s Swimming Carnival.
On Friday a team of 28 students will represent St Cuthbert’s at the STCPSSA Swimming Carnival at the Doone Kennedy Hobart Aquatic Centre. The Carnival will be held from 9:20 am - 11:30 am and the St. Cuthbert’s Team will be competing in the lanya Division (old Blue Division). We know our team will do us proud!
Harmony Day
Harmony Day is a special occasion that we always look forward to celebrating as a school community. It is a time to embrace and appreciate the rich diversity that makes our school such a wonderful place.
Due to a very busy schedule this week, including NAPLAN and St Patrick’s Day, we have made the decision to postpone our Harmony Day celebration to Friday, 2nd May (Term 2). This will allow us to give the event the focus and recognition it deserves.
We appreciate your understanding and look forward to coming together in Term 2 to celebrate inclusivity, respect, and belonging. More details will be shared closer to the date.
Term 1 ReminderPlease note the last day for Term 1 is Thursday 10th April 2025. Friday 11th April is a student free day.
Pick Up/Drop Off
Could all parents and guardians please comply to the following protocols in regards to the pick-up and drop off of students at St Cuthbert’s Catholic School:
- Please arrive no earlier than 3pm to collect children from the pick up zone.
- Please ensure that the NO PARKING zone that is sign-posted outside the school on Corinna Road is strictly observed. This is a drop-off/pick-up zone only.
- Cars must not be left unattended in the zone.
- Parents are asked to drive around the block if they cannot see their child ready to be picked up.
- At pick-up time all drivers please enter Corinna Road from Lincoln Street and exit at Lowanna Rd (essentially making Corinna Road one way at this time of the day).
- There is no parent parking in the cul-de-sac in Moirunna Road near the Kindergarten and Prep classrooms.
- Please be respectful and courteous to our neighbours by not parking over driveways.
- Please ensure when entering any of our school gates that you ensure you close it behind you. This poses a safety risk to our students when these are left open.
We appreciate your assistance with these requests.

Lent and Project Compassion- St. Patrick’s Day
Thank you to everyone who participated in our St. Patrick's Day celebrations by dressing up in the spirit of the occasion. A special thank you to the 1/2 Red class for leading our school in prayer, followed by the heartfelt performance of the beautiful Irish Blessing. Their participation helped create a meaningful and joyful atmosphere for all.
We also want to express our sincere gratitude to all the families who supported Project Compassion by donating a gold coin. Your generosity is making a real difference.
Looking ahead, we’ll have another opportunity to contribute to Project Compassion in Week 10. On this day, we invite everyone to dress in purple and participate in creating a coin line by contributing more coins. This is another wonderful chance to come together as a community and support this important cause.
If you’d like to learn more about Project Compassion and how your donations help, please visit their official page for more information on where the funds go and the impact they have on those in need.

Sacramental Program
We are excited to be well underway with our Bellerive-Lindisfarne Parish Sacramental Program. At this special time, we ask for your prayers for Hamish Davie and Zac Casillan as they prepare to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the first time next Wednesday evening at Corpus Christi Church.
This significant step in their faith journey marks an important moment of spiritual growth, and we are grateful to be part of this experience with them. Please join us in praying for Hamish and Zac as they continue to deepen their relationship with God and prepare to receive this sacrament.
1/2 Religious Education News
This Lent, we have been focusing on deepening our relationship with God by exploring the three pillars of Lent: Prayer, Fasting, and Almsgiving (or Thanksgiving). Through our reflections, we’ve considered how these practices can help us grow spiritually during this sacred season.
We’ve discussed the importance of daily prayer, taking time each day to connect with God and strengthen our faith. Fasting has also been a central topic, where we reflect on giving up things that we often rely on or enjoy, such as technology or sweets, in order to develop self-discipline and focus on our spiritual growth. Lastly, we’ve reflected on the importance of Almsgiving, which involves spreading love and kindness by giving to others, whether through acts of service, sharing resources, or offering a helping hand to those in need.
Through these practices, we aim to grow closer to God, deepen our understanding of faith, and make a positive impact on those around us this Lent.
We reflected upon the following questions about how we can grow closer to God this Lent. Here are some snippets of what our Grade 1/2 students want to do in Lent…
What is one way I can pray more deeply this Lent?
- Pray for the sick, needy, suffering people, and thank God for his blessings
- Pray by dancing and singing more
- Pray more than usual
- Go a pilgrimage to a special place
What is one thing I could give up to help me focus on God?
- I can give up something I really like (junk food and lollies!!) so I can focus on God
- Give up playing my playstation at least 5 times a week
- I can give up my iPad
What is one way I can help someone else through almsgiving like Project Compassion?
- I can support our school events for Project Compassion
- I can donate some of my pocket money to Project Compassion
- I could give away my iPad to someone who doesn’t have one

ILRE
NAPLAN 2025
Students will be sitting NAPLAN between 12 and 24 March 2025.
The National Assessment Program-Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) assesses literacy and numeracy skills that students are already learning at school. On its own, NAPLAN is not a test that can be studied for, and students are not expected to do so.
NAPLAN is just one aspect of a school’s assessment and reporting process – it does not replace ongoing assessments made by teachers about student performance; however, students and parents may use individual results to discuss progress with teachers.
NAPLAN has been held in March since 2023, having previously taken place in May. This change was made so school systems would have access to results earlier in the school year. These results can then be used to inform teaching and learning plans for the remainder of the year.
Why NAPLAN is conducted online
NAPLAN online provides a better assessment and more precise results.
One of the main benefits of NAPLAN online is that it uses tailored (or adaptive) testing. This means that students receive questions better suited to their abilities, so they can show what they know and can do.
Online testing also allows us to provide a wide range of accessibility options to support students with disability to access NAPLAN.
Feedback from students is that they find the online test more engaging.
Please note that students in Year 3 complete the Writing Test on paper.
